Colorado Gives Day: Denver Boy Scouts

December 6, 2011 is Colorado Gives Day. This is a day that could be an important day for the Denver Area Boy Scouts if you give.

Ten area counties benefit from the Denver Area Boy Scouts. Scouting serves over 61,000 youth in its programs. Annually 10,000 youth experience summer camp at the beautiful 3300 acre Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch in Elbert County, the 300 acre majestic mountain camp Tahosa or at numerous day camps. Much of the leadership is provided by volunteers guided by the highly skilled professionals from the Denver Council. These successful programs give our youth as safe environment in which to grow and explore. There are opportunities here that inspire careers in education, medical fields, earth sciences and even the military just to name a few.  Your youth have a safe haven where they can learn their strengths and how to have the confidence to use them in their lives.

The weekly programs that Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing and Exploring are grounded in provide a sense of community for our youth. They have the opportunity to make lifelong friends. They have the opportunity to work and camp together on a local level. This can lead to the adventure of a lifetime attending a National or World Scouting Jamboree, where they meet and learn from scouts from all over the world.

Nationally Boy Scouts operates three High Adventure Camps. Sea Base in located in the Florida Keys where youth can learn about sailing, scuba and camping on a desert island is all about. The Northern Tier provides canoeing ventures where it is man versus the elements of the northern Minnesota. The third is Philmont where crews of youth climb into the back country of northern New Mexico. These are all places where you see boys and girls head on to the adventure and young men and women return with an amazing self confidence that come with the knowledge of what they have accomplish.

Boy Scouts does not leave the parents behind either. 10,000 adult volunteers take part in amazing training opportunities that exist within the program. You are given a program that is geared to enhance the life of the youth but before you know it you are getting a whole new knowledge base as well. In the Boy Scout training programs adults learn how to push themselves so that they can give more to the youth. It is also an opportunity to make wonderful friendships that can travel across the country with you. Some of the most wonderful and generous people I have ever met are Scouters.
