The Colorado Cleantech Industry Association is announcing the inaugural Colorado Cleantech Awards Celebration. This celebratory luncheon will honor the companies and entrepreneurs driving Colorado’s thriving cleantech industry. Colorado Cleantech is the featured insert in the September issue of ColoradoBiz magazine.

The Luncheon is taking place this afternoon, October 19, 2010, to a sold out house of clean energy lovers, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm in the Denver Marriott City Center, Denver Ballroom

The concept of clean technologies covers a range of products, services, and processes that are designed to provide superior performance at lower costs, reduce or eliminate environmental impacts and, improve the quality of life in Colorado. Clean technologies span many industries, from alternative forms of energy generation to water purification to materials-efficient production techniques. The Colorado CleanTech Initiative (CCI), initiated in January 2005, is directed at developing new start-up businesses based on technologies developed in the Colorado Front Range. The CCI helps businesses grow from the ground up and provides a base from which to provide jobs for Colorado.

And the CleanTech Industry website states that “The Colorado Cleantech Action Plan, released on October 18, 2010, finds Colorado's innovation in the wind, solar, smart grid and bio-derived sectors, combined with the state's progressive policies, will be the leading driver of industry growth over the next five years. “

This luncheon is the one event this year for Colorado's cleantech community to come together and honor the new energy economy put forth by Colorado's cleantech industry leaders.

Mr. Ira Ehrenpreis, (General Partner with Technology Partners in Palo Alto, CA) will be the keynote speaker at this luncheon. Mr. Ehrenpreis has been with Technology Partners since 1996 and was investing in cleantech long before that.

The majority of the firm's investments are in early stage companies and 50% of those are in cleantech. According to the CleanTech Industry website, Mr. Ehrenpreis leads the firm's Cleantech investment practice, investing in Energy Technology, Water Technology, and Advanced Materials opportunities and is an investor in Colorado's Abound Solar, as well as in Tesla Motors.

“Widely regarded as one of the most experienced cleantech investors, Mr. Ehrenpreis will deliver a keynote address covering "The State of the Cleantech Industry." As one of the pioneers in the cleantech sector, he'll share how the cleantech sector has evolved over the past decade and review the drivers behind cleantech's emergence as the fastest growing area of the venture asset class. Mr. Ehrenpreis will also review the challenges the industry faces and those issues notwithstanding, why he believes cleantech will continue to be a good bet in the years and decades to come.”
