On Friday, the Colonial Figure Skating Club, Inc. will welcome more than 130 synchronized skating teams to the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell for this weekend's 29th annual Colonial Classic Synchronized Skating Competition. Among the nearly 2,000 skaters competing at this year's Colonial Classic is Pittsburgh's first U.S. Figure Skating synchronized skating team, the Steel City Blades, whose skaters will kick off their competition season during this three-day competition that runs from Jan. 4-6 in Lowell, Mass.
The Steel City Blades Pre-Juvenile team will take to the ice first competing Friday evening at 7:50 p.m. along with 23 other Pre-Juvenile teams. The team is scheduled to skate first in the final flight of eight teams.
On Saturday afternoon, it's the Open Juvenile team's turn to shine when they face off eight other Open Juvenile teams. The team will skate third in the final flight.
This year's Colonial Classic boasts more than 20 hours of competition at 15 different U.S. Figure Skating levels. Events will run from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9:35 p.m. Saturday and 9:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are required for entry to the competition. Tickets for all events are available per day at the following prices:
- Friday: $10 adults/$10 seniors over age 60 and children ages 6-12
- Saturday: $22 adults/$20 seniors over age 60 and children ages 6-12
- Sunday: $22 adults/$20 seniors over age 60 and children ages 6-12
There is no admission charge for military and children under the age of six. Tickets may be purchased at the Tsongas Center box office from 3-8 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
