Apr 29, 2011 – Orquesta Guayacan, on tour from Colombia, filled up the Conga Room in downtown Los Angeles Thursday night.
Director Alexis Lozano was not on stage. Instead, the bass player for Grupo Niche performed with Guayacan. Whether Lozano’s absence had something to do with the negative press he has received since his comments back in December at the Feria de Cali is not known. The press conference between the group and Los Angeles media, scheduled for Thursday afternoon, was cancelled.
At any rate, vocalists Mauro Gomez and Win Perea stood in front of the stage and sang their hearts out during two extended sets. Energetic and committed, Orquesta Guayacan kept the hundreds in the audience dancing until close to one in the morning.
