As a prelude to New York Fashion Week, the Colombia Luxury Lifestyle Show held its first NYC show of Fashion, Beauty, Health and Tourism at The Altman Building last week. The two-day event included an opening night and a vendor showcase. The event showcased the real image, culture, people and products of Colombia. According to the general manager of Colombia Luxury Lifestyle Show, Andrea Riaño, the goal of the Colombia Luxury Lifestyle Show was to introduce New Yorkers to what Colombia has to offer, focusing on their fashion, beauty, health and tourism opportunites.
Guests found themselves immersed in a multifaceted event highlighted by fashion shows, a musical performance by Latin Grammy-Nominated singer Andres Cabas, art exhibits, and a crowd so international and eclectic only NYC could gather. Upon entrance, guests were greeted by a spectacle of twenty chrome mannequins dressed in Colombian high fashion by some of the country’s most prominent designers and adorned with handcrafted jewelry by designer Mercedes Salazar. According to Salazar, her accessories always try to show the two sides of the coin and the balance between lightness and weight. Large, captivating images by Colombian photographers, including Carlos Ruiz, cascaded from the ceiling as the crowd mingled. Designers, artists, doctors, and beauticians traveled the distance from Colombia to New York with the sole purpose of showcasing their work, products, and services around the venue’s magical setting. The most interesting was Smile Design.
At 8 p.m. a series of three fashion shows began. Pitahaya Swimwear kicked off with their colorful Summer 2011 collection, marking their first show in NYC. Next to grace the runway was designer Silvia Alfonzo’s sophisticated and feminine apparel, marked by silhouettes of rouched flowers, gypsy-style tie-dyes and watercolors. To close the shows, the models strutted in designer Edwing D’Angelo’s retrospective viewing of his best preview collection looks. In between the fashion shows, Latin Grammy-Nominated Colombian musician, Andres Cabas performed to an enthusiastic crowd.
The next day the Altman Building was transformed into a tradeshow, featuring twenty-five booths representing fashion, beauty, health, and tourism of Colombia. Throughout the day visitors flowed in and out of the venue to marvel at the various forms of entertainment, including a photo shoot with avant-garde accessories designer Daniel Nieto, winner of the Accessories Council’s Excellence in Footwear Design.
The two-day event raised awareness of the Colombian Fashion, Beauty, Luxury, Travel, and entertainment world to the New York City trade. Buyers, designers, socialites, potential customers, and media alike were present for the historical and fashionable showcase of Colombian Luxury Lifestyle Show in NYC.
