Week 10 of the GHSA regular season football schedule includes two big games that will do much to determine the regular season Region 7-Class AAAAAA standings. North Gwinnett (7-0, 5-0) is the lone undefeated team in the region, and will play host to Collins Hill (6-1, 5-1), while Peachtree Ridge (6-1, 4-1) will visit Norcross (6-2, 5-1). North is the No. 1 team in the region, Collins Hill comes in No. 3, and Norcross is No. 2 while Peachtree Ridge is No. 4.
The North Gwinnett-Collins Hill game pits the top scoring offense in the region against the No. 1 scoring defense. The Bulldogs are averaging 44 points a game while allowing only 14, and are one of only two teams in the region that have scored more than 300 points (311). Mill Creek (5-3, 3-3) has tallied 307 in eight games. The Eagles come in allowing only 12 PPG (85). Their offense, while not as high powered as North, is averaging 34 PPG so this promises to be a fight to the end.
Look for North to improve to 6-0 in region and extend their lead to two games over Collins Hill with a hard fought victory.
In the other big game of the week, Peachtree Ridge will travel to Norcross to face a Blue Devil team that looks to have regained their championship form after starting 1-2. This one will be decided by which team makes the fewest mistakes. The Devil D has allowed only 9 points in the last three games, including a shutout over Collins Hill a couple of weeks ago, and looks to be hitting on all cylinders. The Norcross offense has been workman like, not making many mistakes, so the Lions cannot afford to turn the ball over if they hope to come out on top in this one.
Look for Norcross to take this one thanks to a late by a turnover.
Other Region 7-AAAAAA Games:
Duluth (1-6, 1-4) over Habersham Central (0-8, 0-6).
Mountain View (1-6, 1-4) over Meadowcreek (1-6, 1-4).
Mill Creek does not play this week.
Region 8-AAAAAA Games:
Archer (8-0, 6-0) is the top team in Region 8 and will down South Gwinnett (3-4, 2-3) to stay undefeated.
Dacula (3-4, 3-2) over Shiloh (4-4, 2-4).
Brookwood (3-4, 3-2) will continue their rebound from a 0-3 start to beat Berkmar (3-4, 1-4).
Central Gwinnett (2-5, 2-3) and Parkview (1-6, 1-4) should be a tight game that will go to the final minutes. Look for Central to pull it out.
Grayson (4-4, 4-2) is on a bye week.
Buford (7-0, 4-0), the top team in the region, will remain undefeated after downing Fannin County (2-5, 1-3).
Lanier (5-2, 2-2) lost by three points to Chestatee, the No. 1 team in the region, last week and will face Stephens County (4-3, 2-2) in another tight contest. Look for Lanier to come out on top this time.
After going 9-1 in Week 9, Examiner is 59-18 in game projections for the season.
Which of The Big Four in Region 7 (North Gwinnett, Norcross, Collins Hill and Peachtree Ridge) has the most success against the other three will win the region. So far, there have been three games between the Big Four. North Gwinnett is 1-0, Collins Hill and Norcross are each 1-1 and Peachtree Ridge is 0-1.
This week will see which two teams take an advantage by downing the other two.
