College Years at San Jose Bar and Grill

October 8, 2010

On the corner of San Fernando and 2nd Street sits the San Jose Bar and Grill, a lunch time favorite for many, but a great place for young singles to meet up.

Hit the place up after 10pm when the crowd starts to gather and by 11pm you’ll start to see a line of heels and short skirts lining up to enter. While during the day you’ll find mostly local downtown workers and city visitors, at night you’ll find many of the young socialites from San Jose State hanging out to have a beer with friends, dance with their girls or find the perfect person for right now.

Music is loud, but doesn’t drown out conversation, as well as the floor can fill up fast so non-dancers might just be lucky enough to avoid having to shuffle their awkward feet. The bar is surprisingly larger than it looks and a covered outdoor patio sits in front to allow for smoking. Also in front is the grill, which comes to life and ushers in a deliciously smelling aroma of tasty food as you enter.

Not hungry that early? Fortunately their kitchen is open late, and while they serve the usual bar grub, it’s worthwhile to know that you can grab a quick bite as you’re leaving, without having to plan to hit up a fast food joint on the way home.

Both the staff and patrons are friendly and don’t be surprised if you find yourself pulled into conversations with random strangers. Just go with it, and let the night take you where it will.
