Richards' throw in goes in as match winner
All summer long with the Portland Timbers U23s Brent Richards used his feet and head to score goals for the 2010 PDL Champions. Sunday, back in Portland with the University of Washington Huskies for the Nike Invitational, Richards found another way to score...using his hands.
Says GoHuskies.com: The game's lone goal did not come off of a Husky foot, rather the hands of forward Brent Richards. In the 73rd minute, Richards threw the ball in parallel to the goal as the ball went off of the NIU goalkeeper, Jordan Godsey, and into the net. Rules state that a player can score a goal on a throw in if it goes off of a defender, which was the case here.
The Huskies women were at home on Sunday and rallied to draw Wisconsin 1:1.
SeattleU Redhawks shut out Gonzaga women
The SeattleU Redhawks women earned a 2:0 win on Sunday on Capitol Hill over the Zags from Spokane. "Not enough can be said about our backline," head coach Julie Woodward told the school athletic site. "They were solid for us, preventing Gonzaga from getting many goal-scoring shots off. Our defense was well organized and helped us come away with our shutout victory today."
The Redhawks men remain in Texas. They will face SMU on Monday.
Wild one for Western Washington
