College Rejection Is Part of the College Admissions Process

In the next week or two, college rejection or acceptance letters will go out tostudents who applied early decision to schools.  Whether you're an applicant or  an applicant's parent, one thing to remember is that getting into any specific college is not what will make or break your life.

After writing the best application and essays, getting rave reviews from your teachers, and participating in extracurricular activities with enthusiasm, a letter of rejection can be a devastating blow. No matter how confident you may normally be, a rejection letter from your college of choice is a hard pill to swallow and can lead to some serious angst.

College rejection isn't fatal and can happen to any applicant, even those who have stellar grades and test scores.  We all get rejected at some time in our lives and it's important to know that you’re not alone and it's not as crushing as it might see.  You're still a cool person with a lot to offer and don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise.  Warren Buffett went to Columbia because he was turned down by Harvard.  He became one of the most successful investors in the world and a billionaire and philanthropist.

Focus on the other schools on your list and get those applications off.  Many colleges do not have deadlines until January and others are on a rolling admissions basis and can be submitted anytime before their due date.   College rejection can be a big disappointment, but it often leads to new opportunities that can be even better choices in the end.
