The College of Mount Saint Vincent has announced it will be adding wrestling for the 2012-13 season and has already hired Ryan Cooley as its head coach, the school in far northern New York City announced Tuesday.
Cooley wrestled for four seasons at New York University, then served as an assistant coach at Hunter College for two seasons. While at Hunter, Cooley assisted with the day-to-day running of the program, including recruiting, scheduling, fundraising and academic support, according to the Mount Saint Vincent statement.
In addition to this collegiate experience, Cooley now serves as a Program Manager for the Beat the Streets program in New York City. Since the spring of 2007, Cooley has developed a coach’s education program for middle school coaches and has helped the New York City Public School Athletic League add 24 new wrestling programs from 2008-10.
Men’s wrestling will become the 15th varsity program at Mount Saint Vincent and will be the eighth men’s sport sponsored by the school. The program will compete in NCAA Division III.
Mount Saint Vincent is a Catholic liberal arts college located in the Riverdale section of The Bronx, N.Y. It has a student enrollment of approximately 1,800.
