On Wednesday CBS Sports released their Heisman rankings. Every time the Heisman race seems to clear up a little, something happens to bring players back to the pack. For a couple of weeks, Braxton Miller was out due to a knee injury, and the success of Kenny Guiton helped the country forget about Miller’s prowess. Yet, the Buckeye quarterback came on strong in Ohio State’s victory over Wisconsin. While various reports don't have Miller in the fold, his effort should be commended as the preseason favorite.
Braxton Miller is completing 69 percent of his passes and he has thrown six touchdowns. The only blemish so far is one interception. The change between this season and last season is the ground attack. Braxton doesn’t have a rushing touchdown yet, but things may change on Saturday when Ohio State plays Northwestern.
1. Marcus Mariota- The numbers weren’t great in the rain storm last weekend. Oregon scored 27 points in the first quarter and never looked back. His lack of production in easy victories could hurt him if the Ducks don’t run the table. Mariota still had three total touchdowns vs. Cal.
2. Johnny Manziel- The Heisman winner had two touchdown passes and 59 yards rushing. Manziel also completed 23/30 passes against Arkansas on the road. He has 17 total touchdowns this season.
3. Jameis Winston- The Florida State freshman has thrown 12 touchdowns and two interceptions. His touchdown pass at the end of the half was a thing of beauty. Winston has a statement game this weekend against Maryland.
4. Bryce Petty- Petty and the Baylor Bears are coming off of a bye week. The team is averaging 70 points per game. Petty has 8 touchdowns and zero interceptions.
5. Braxton Miller- Now that Miller is back playing, he deserves to be on the list. He’ll jump even higher if the Buckeyes beat Northwestern.
