The Miami Hurricanes have everything to play for this season. After the results of the NCAA investigation came back, Miami knows they are sitting pretty for a BCS bid. On Friday, CBSsportsline.com has the Hurricanes a 24 point favorite over Wake Forest. However, the Demon Deacons have plans to ruin Miami’s undefeated run.
Wake Forest vs. Miami
When: Saturday, October 26, 12:00 p.m.
Where: Sun Life Stadium
It was easy to hate Miami after last week’s performance, but all of the vitriol aimed at the Hurricanes was not warranted. A couple days later it proved just how out of line people were. Miami showed poise and toughness after playing a horrible game. They used a final drive to sneak out with a victory over North Carolina. Yet, it was much better than what many other top 12 teams could muster up.
Wake Forest has been mostly respectable throughout the season, but they did have one terrible performance this season. Previously, unbeaten Clemson beat them down at the end of September, but Wake Forest has won two in a row in October. With a (4-3) record, the Demon Deacons have the chance to prove if they belong in the top half of the ACC.
If Wake Forest has to depend on their offense, they will be in a heap of trouble. They are below average in all facets of the game. The Demon Deacons barely surpass 100 yards on the ground, and they don’t have prolific passing game. Yet, they’ve played their best football in October.
Defensively, this is where they will win the game. Wake Forest has to compete against a tough Miami offense. They’ll have their chance to force turnovers, and if they do, Wake Forest must score. The more opportunities that are missed, the fewer chances Wake Forest will have to pull off the upset.
The Hurricanes are as balanced as a team you will see in college football. They rank 16 on both sides of the ball, and they depend on each other to make plays. Stephen Morris has to be ready to complete passes early in the game. Hopefully for the Hurricanes, Morris can get back to his old form.
Miami is dealing with an offense that shouldn’t be able to move the ball. It’s hard to envision Wake Forest sustaining drives against Miami. That means, Miami has to guard against the big plays. They can’t miss tackles or play out of position.
As long as the Hurricanes have Wake Forest on the mind, expect Miami to play with a lot of passion on Saturday. They’ll be flying around the ball and the offense will click for the first time in weeks. The loss of Dorsett may factor in, but they will not be deterred in this game.
