Clemson and Maryland had horrible setbacks last Saturday. Although the nation has only been concerned with the Tigers’ struggles, Maryland definitely has it worse. On Friday, starting quarterback C.J. Brown and leading running back Brandon Ross were ruled out of the game. According to CBSsportsline.com Maryland has 24 players on the injury report. The Terrapins will also be without their top receivers for the rest of the season. Stefon Diggs and Deon Long each sustained broken legs in the loss to Wake Forest. There’s no way that Maryland should be able to compete with Clemson on Saturday.
There are a couple of ways Clemson can react to the beat down that occurred last week. They can feel sorry for themselves and look sluggish in a close loss, or they can come out like they are still a top 10 team and take out the depleted Maryland Terrapins early. Both teams felt the wrath of we call Florida State.
Throw last week’s game out the window. It just wasn’t meant to be. They can still take care of business, and a BCS Bowl bid is still right there for the taking. Offensively, they have to get back to where they were at the beginning of the season. Clemson has gotten progressively worse, but sometimes it takes a loss to regain that focus. Tajh Boyd is going to have an explosive game, and it’s time to utilize Sammy Watkins more. If he has to play tailback, then so be it.
Defensively, they should be able to bury Maryland. The Terrapins are missing all of their skill position players. If Clemson is worked through their misery, they’ll have no problem shutting down Maryland.
Clemson was overwhelmed last week and Maryland can really get them on their heels early on. Maryland has to make plays on the offensive end. It’s going to be a difficult task because their big play threats are on the sideline. The Terrapins might have to use the running game and play keep away.
Defensively, they are going to find an angry offense. They know Clemson hasn’t been playing well lately, but they still have the potential to explode on offense. Tajh Boyd did not handle the pressure well last week. Maryland will try to do the same, but it’s been proven that they don’t have the same athletes as Florida State.
By the time this game is over, Clemson will feel better about their prospects. Maryland is just too injured to pull off the upset on Saturday. Tajh Boyd will have a bounce back game and the offense will look in sync.
