College football starts the day off with a treat of epic proportions on Saturday. Maryland comes to Florida State in a battle of undefeated teams. Still, CBSsportsline.com has the Seminoles as a 16.5 point favorite over Maryland. Can Maryland’s offense take advantage of the Seminoles’ defense?
Maryland vs. Florida State
When: Saturday, October 5, 12:00 p.m.
Where: Doak Campbell Stadium
Florida State is supposed to have their toughest test on Saturday afternoon. They take on a Maryland team that’s starting to gain steam and recognition in the polls. What’s more important, it looks like the Terrapins can go toe to toe with the Seminoles on Saturday.
Offensively, the edge goes to Florida State, but it’s not the great disparity as you might expect. In September, Jameis Winston was better than advertised and finds himself in position for a Heisman trophy run.
The Seminoles have the edge in the passing game, but only slightly. While the Seminoles are just shy of 300 yards per game through the air, Maryland isn’t far behind with over 270 yards per contest.
Both teams have displayed a very balanced attack this season. While you may think it’s all about Stefon Diggs. Maryland has plenty of big playmakers on the offensive end. Quarterback C.J. Brown is second on the team in rushing and completing 66 percent of his passes.
Florida State’s receiving corps is littered with talent, and they should be back at full strength on Saturday.
Maryland is not just an offensive juggernaut however. The Terps are 13th in rushing defense and give up less than 100 yards per game. They will be tested up front by the power game of the Seminoles. Florida State will throw three running backs at the Maryland front seven. Will they be up to the task?
The Verdict: The Seminoles have dominated this series and they have won the last six meetings. Maryland has to have a good showing and most people think they will. Yet, it will be hard for Maryland to win on the road. We will know a lot more by the time this game is over.
