On Saturday September 21, the Florida Gators are a 16 point favorite over the Tennessee Volunteers according to CBS Sports. With both teams suffering a loss out of conference in their last game, this SEC East contest is a way to gain back some confidence for the winner. If fans like traditional SEC football with minimal offense, this is the game for you. Coming into Saturday, Florida has a major advantage over the Volunteers in the passing game.
Tennessee Volunteers vs. Florida Gators
When: Saturday, September 21, 3:30 p.m.
Where: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium
Tennessee has shown some improvement in overall production under Butch Jones, except in the passing game. They only average 137 yards through the air, and that can be bad news while facing a tremendous Gators’ defense.
The Volunteers will display a tough running game, but they are facing the third best rushing defense in the country. Somehow, someway, Tennessee needs to muster up some offensive production.
The Florida Gators have their own troubles on the offensive end. However, they usually find a way to win games with defense and special teams. Yet, turnovers did them in against Miami two weeks ago.
Florida has an adequate running game, but it’s nothing special in terms of explosiveness. The expectation is for Florida to spread the ball deep early in the game to loosen up the Vols defense. Without big plays, Tennessee will have the ability to stay in the game.
The Verdict: Florida has no choice but to win this game. If they lose, it will be the third loss in four games and that’s never a good trend. Jeff Driskel also needs to have a bounce back game. Otherwise, the Gators will be all but out of SEC title contention. This time they’ll find away to pull out a close one.
