From top to bottom, the PAC 12 has been a dominant conference this season. They currently have seven undefeated teams and two of the best get together for a monumental match up on Saturday evening. Arizona State Sun Devils vs. Stanford Cardinal
When: Saturday, September 21, 7:00 p.m
Where: Stanford Stadium
Thanks to untimely boneheaded officiating, the Arizona State Sun Devils were assured a victory over Wisconsin in the last second. Now they take on another power running team in the form of Stanford. Could this be a preview of the PAC 12 championship?
Kevin Hogan has never lost a game as a starter for Stanford. He’ll look to continue his brilliant performance against a powerful Sun Devil squad.
Arizona State has a tremendous passing offense and they average more than 350 yards through the air. On Saturday, the passing game must be in peak form to pull the road upset. Taylor Kelly is completing 63 percent of his passes and he has five touchdowns on the season. Do it all, Marion Grice already has 6 touchdowns this season.
He will be Stanford’s main concern on the defensive end. The Cardinal have a way of making opposing offenses wilt against consistent pressure. Still, the Cardinal must continue to tackle well and cause third and long situations.
On offense, Stanford will continue to run the ball effectively. Hogan is great off of play action passes. What makes Stanford really tough is the balance that they possess on offense. While they won’t wow you with stats, they’ll make up for it with a power game that wears down opponents.
The Verdict: It’s hard to pick against Stanford until they actually lose a game with Kevin Hogan at the helm. Therefore, Stanford will win a fun one to continue the streak. As long as Arizona State wasn’t celebrating too much, they should keep this game close throughout.
