The PAC 12 has a couple of key games going on during the second week of the season. On Saturday September 7, the Stanford Cardinal come in as a shocking 24. 5 favorite over San Jose State. The Spartans have already played one game this year in a shutout of Sacramento State. Stanford has yet to play this season. The game starts at 11 p.m. at Stanford Stadium.
Stanford has to contend with David Fales and the San Jose State offense. Fales did not have a great first game, only completing 50 percent of his passes, but he did hit two touchdown passes. David Fales also presents the big play opportunities that San Jose State needs for an upset victory.
Stanford’s defense should be ready to roll into the season as one of the favorites to win the national title. Last year the game came down to the final moments, so the Cardinal will be ready for a tough 60 minute game.
Defensively San Jose State gave up 86 yards rushing, but they will be dealing with a whole different level of physicality when they meet Stanford again. They also have control Kevin Hogan at quarterback.
Stanford quarterback, Kevin Hogan is one of the most intriguing quarterbacks, and has not lost as a starter once he took over the job midway through last season. He’s capably to make plays with his legs, and the added dimension is rough on opposing defenses.
The Verdict: Stanford had to wait an extra week to begin their season, so they’ll be extra motivated. David Shaw will have his guys ready from the opening kickoff. It will still be an interesting game all the way through, however.
