It took seven weeks, but the college football season finally had some monumental upsets on Saturday. There have been a few minor surprises, but nothing like the shakeup that happened this weekend. Seven top 25 teams lost on one afternoon. Of course there were going to be a couple with top ranked match ups across the college landscape, but it almost got out of hand.
The Examiner.com Poll will be released on Monday morning, and I already sent in my submissions. The number one team, Alabama, had an easy time with Kentucky. Oregon and Clemson also won so my top three remained unchanged. After that, there was a whole bunch of shuffling going on in the poll submission.
Stanford and Georgia lost games. Both teams were in the top five. While the Stanford game was a shock, Oklahoma's performance in the Red River Rivalry was pathetic. The Sooners were thoroughly outclassed by Texas.
A couple of predictable losses also happened. Northwestern and Florida lost on the road. Each team scored six points in lackluster offensive efforts.
Texas A&M gave up 38 points, but the Aggies still came away with a 3 point victory over the Ole Miss Rebels. Johnny Manziel used a heavy dose of the running game to score to rushing touchdowns.
Baylor's offense came back down to earth, but they won their game over Kansas State. The road victory was the best to date, by the Bears and they were rewarded with a top 10 slot.
I had to have Florida State as a top 5 pick. It's only right to have two of the best teams face off when Clemson and FSU battle for the ACC conference title game. Check the rest of the top 25 submission, and stay tuned for the Examiner.com poll on Monday.
