Instagram today was particularly interesting to look at. While some are posting pictures of the lake, a final weekend at the pool or the inside of a cramped car bound for the open road, others are posting tailgate gear, college flags, and new Victoria’s Secret Pink collegiate jerseys fresh off the rack.
To give insight to the look and feel of my current InstaFeed, it goes a little something like this:
My Alabama friend, who by the way is Devin Grissom (Miss Alabama runner-up and CMT star #namedrop), posted an intense image of an Alabama player running into some fog with the caption, “One more day!”
My Kansas State friend posted an image of a billboard spray painted with a saying so insightful, it basically sums up the kind of education you can receive at KSU: “EMAW.” And the caption read, “Football season has arrived.”
My Missouri person that I follow (friend just isn’t quite the right word), posted a photo of the Mizzou quarterback ready to throw a pass with the words, “Day Left Until Kickoff.” I can only assume he meant “ONE day left until kickoff,” but nonetheless his excitement came across.
Then there is everyone else – the posters of pool pics, boat shots and lake cabins – or as I prefer to call them, Jayhawk fans. Granted KU does have a bye this week, but if the season were set to open tomorrow, would fans be posting photos depicting their utmost excitement? As a KU alum myself, I am inclined to say the answer is probably not.
After winning just one game last year, and two incredibly forgetful seasons prior to that, the Jayhawk faithful has little reason to be thrilled about the next 13 weeks of regular season college football. Even Head Coach Charlie Weis had this to say about the talent (or lack thereof) on his roster:
Everyone wants to play. There’s no one that wants to not play. I said, have you looked at that pile of crap out there? Have you taken a look at that? So if you don’t think you can play here, where do you think you can play?
Only time will tell how this KU football team will fare, but in the meantime, enjoy the sun and summer cocktails Kansas Fans, because we are in for what could be a long, bumpy ride.
