The first official college football rankings were released on Thursday, and you can finally get excited about where your team resides in the Top 25. The preseason coaches poll played it close to the vest and there weren’t too many surprises.
The Florida State Seminoles start off where they ended the 2013 season. Behind Jameis Winston and a dominant returning team, Florida State is No. 1. The Seminoles received a grand total of 56 first place votes.
They are followed by the Alabama Crimson Tide at No. 2. Alabama didn’t get any first place votes. Alabama will be breaking in a new quarterback, and whoever it is will be replacing a legend in A.J. McCarron.
The Oklahoma Sooners ended the Big 12 season on a high note and dominated Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. Now they are the preseason No. 3 team. The Sooners still have a lot to prove in 2014, but they should have the talent to back up all of the lofty expectations. The Sooners received three first place votes.
Oregon is the highest ranked PAC-12 team at No.4, but they have to get out of the tough PAC-12 North before a championship is in the cards. The Ducks received one first place vote.
Rounding out the top five is last year’s BCS championship runner up. The Auburn Tigers shocked the football world with their strong season, but now they are a marked team in 2014.
Ohio State is the highest ranked Big 10 team at No. 6. The Buckeyes are riding a two game losing streak after winning 24 straight to start Urban Meyer’s tenure.
UCLA comes in at No. 7 while Big 10 and Rose Bowl champion, Michigan State is the No. 8 team.
South Carolina and Baylor round out the top 10. The Gamecocks are the only SEC team to receive a first place vote, and they are the third top 10 team in the SEC.
The ACC has three ranked teams in the top 25 with (Florida State, Clemson and North Carolina).
The SEC has seven ranked teams in the top 25. Along with Alabama, Auburn, and South Carolina, the SEC has (LSU, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M.)
