Cleanthony Early and Ron Baker led four double figure scorers with 17 points apiece. Tekele Cotton and Chadrack Lufile each scored 11 points for Wichita State. The Shockers scored 80 points, but they had another impressive defensive effort.
Kadeem Coleby blocked six shots in 15 minutes of action. Wichita State had a MVC tournament record 11 blocks overall. They also created nine steals against Evansville.
The defense held Evansville to 36% shooting, while Wichita State hit 50% of their shots.
D.J Balentine had another tremendous game for the Aces. However, his lone scoring outburst wasn’t enough to contend with Wichita State. Balentine hit all seven of Evansville’s 3-pointers. In fact, he took 14 of the 16 attempts from downtown.
If the Shockers don’t lose in the conference tournament, the Missouri Valley will be a one bid league. The Shockers will play Missouri State on Saturday.
