On Tuesday, three more ranked college basketball teams lost in one night. All three teams (Syracuse, Iowa State, Creighton) have lost consecutive games. In addition, they are all endanger of dropping seed lines come selection Sunday. Syracuse has lost four out of five games.
The Orange bench was whittled down to two players with the loss of Jerami Grant on Tuesday. Georgia Tech used their size and passing ability to hold off a furious rally by Syracuse. Led by Daniel Miller’s 15 points, six rebounds, six blocks, and four assists, Georgia Tech withstood every run and dominated in the paint.
Syracuse used Tyler Roberson in his first career start. The freshman scored two points in 23 minutes, but this could be valuable playing time for Syracuse. One thing is for sure, Syracuse needed Jerami Grant on the back line of the zone and in the press.
Georgia Tech constantly escaped out of the trap to make the right pass for easy buckets. Trae Golden led the Yellow Jackets with 16 points, but it was his clutch foul shots that sealed the game. Golden made all eight of the freebies.
C.J Fair scored 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but he had to work too hard for most of his points.
Georgia Tech is now (14-16), while Syracuse fell to (26-4).
