Doug McDermott and the Creighton Blue Jays put on another shooting clinic Thursday night. McDermott scored 27 of his 35 points in the first half of the 22 point victory over DePaul. The 86-64 victory was their first taste of life in the Big East tournament, and it was one for the story books.

McDermott broke the Big East tournament scoring record for a half with those 27 points, but he wasn’t the only Blue Jay to get it going. Jahenns Manigat began the game with three 3-point daggers to combine with Doug McDermott’s 11 points. Up until that point, they scored all the points for Creighton, and the Garden was rocking.

Jerry Palm released updated NCAA bracket projections.

DePaul coach Oliver Purnell stated, “I thinks McDermott, once again, proved that he’s the best player in the country.” It’s only a matter of time before he reels in the awards, but Creighton is not done yet.

A day after stunning Georgetown, DePaul came in with a game plan to hold Ethan Wragge down, and they succeeded to a point. Wragge only scored six points, but even when he’s not shooting, he’s a factor.

The crisp ball movement is so smooth, you couldn’t tell that McDermott took 15 more shots than the next highest shooter.

Brandon Young led DePaul with 21 points and nine rebounds. However, he played his final game with the (12-21) Blue Demons.

Creighton moved to (25-6) and have moved into the favorite role with Villanova losing to Seton Hall.

For now, we’ll see Doug McDermott at Madison Square Garden at least one more day.
