The Week 15 college basketball rankings could have Duke at No. 1 again. Duke pulled off a 62-61 win on Sunday night (Feb. 10) to survive a Boston College team looking for a huge upset. The win allowed the Blue Devils to improve to 21-2, but more importantly, kept them as the only team ranked in the top five to not lose over the past week.
No. 1 Indiana lost to Illinois, No. 2 Florida lost to Arkansas, and No. 3 Michigan lost to Wisconsin. Add in the two losses by No. 5 Kansas and it appears that Duke should have a clear path to the top ranking. The only team that could put up a challenge right now are the No. 6 Gonzaga Bulldogs, who improved to 23-2 on the season and currently have the best record in college basketball. Gonzaga fans can surely argue that their team deserves consideration for the top spot, but the national voters may not agree.
If Duke does become the latest No. 1 team in the Week 15 college basketball rankings, they will be tested right away. Games against rival North Carolina (16-7) and Maryland (17-7) await the team in the next week. What makes it very interesting, though, is that Gonzaga plays against 21-4 Saint Mary's on Thursday night (Feb. 14). If Duke gets upset in the next week and Gonzaga continues winning, the Bulldogs could potentially be looking at the first time in school history the team has been No.1.
The latest AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll will come out Monday afternoon (Feb. 11).
