Welcome to the Examiner.com college basketball rankings, where Examiners from all over the nation vote for their Top 25 college basketball teams. Examiners sent in their weekly polls on Jan. 28, ranking the Top 25 college basketball teams in the country.
This week in college basketball saw almost every team from last week's Top 25 rankings lose a game. Of the four teams who received first place votes last week, only the Kansas Jayhawks and Michigan Wolverines finished the week without losing. In a very tight race, where the Examiners were split almost down the middle, Michigan came out in first place with eight votes while Kansas received seven to sit one point back in second place. Indiana, Florida and Duke round out the Top 5.
The biggest jump of the week comes from the Miami Hurricane, who beat Duke and remain undefeated in the ACC. Miami, who was not ranked last week, sitting two spots out of the Top 25, leaped into this week's poll all the way to the No. 14 spot. Two other teams to re-enter the rankings this week were Georgetown and Memphis, who sit tied at No. 25. Dropping from the polls were Notre Dame and VCU.
The Big Ten remains first place for conferences, with five teams in the Top 25, and Michigan holding the No. 1 spot. The Big East stayed pat in second place when Georgetown returned to the rankings, but Notre Dame fell this week. The SEC and ACC sit next with three teams each, as Miami helps the ACC move back up. There is a log-jam next with four conferences with two teams each, including the Big 12, Pac-12, Mountain West and Mountain Valley Conference. The West Coast Conference, Atlantic 10 and Conference USA have one team represented each.
