The brand new AP poll was released on Monday afternoon, and for the first time in two months, there is a new number one team. After Arizona's heartbreaking buzzer beating loss to California, and Syracuse's overtime win over Duke, the Orange were voted the number one team to start February.
According to CBSsportsline.com, plenty of the votes were submitted prior to Sunday's news of Arizona's Brandon Ashley and his season ending foot injury. The Wildcats lost Ashley, and his double figure scoring average.
The AP voted Syracuse as the unanimous pick for number one this week. They'll put their undefeated ACC record on the line against former Big East foe, Notre Dame, on Monday night.
The only other undefeated team, Wichita State stayed in the top five at number four. However, they still find themselves one spot below the Florida Gators.
San Diego State rounds out the top five. Their only loss was to Arizona earlier in the season.
A newcomer to the top 10 is Cincinnati. The Bearcats have moved all the way to number
Kansas, Michigan State, and Michigan round out the top 10, but that's not the only thing that they have in common. Each team lost over the weekend.
Duke starts the second 10, and they are followed by Creighton and St. Louis. Texas rounds out the top 15 after their win over Kansas.
Three new teams jumped in the poll this week. Virginia (20), Connecticut (22), and Gonzaga (23) all replaced a few mainstays from earlier in the season.
Here is the rest of the AP top 25.
1. Syracuse (65)
4. Wichita State
5. San Diego State
