College basketball rankings released: Florida shocks Wichita in AP poll

The AP released the new college basketball poll on Monday afternoon and the Arizona Wildcats are pulling away from the competition. The Wildcats garnered all but two of the first place votes to end the month of January.

Both Arizona and Syracuse have been at the top of the polls since the holiday season, and neither team has yet to drop a game. Arizona fended off a tough Utah team at home earn their 20th straight victory, while Syracuse beat Miami to win 19 in a row.

The third undefeated team, Wichita State Shockers, may have come to the realization of their ceiling in the rankings. At (21-0), Wichita fell behind the hard charging Florida Gators.

The SEC leader has put on a terrific run since losing to the Connecticut Huskies on a last second shot. Now Florida is a top three team in a conference they may run through.
As for Wichita State, it’s conceivable that they could continue to drop in the ranking if Kansas and San Diego State continue to win.

After Michigan State’s second loss of the season, the Spartans dropped to number seven.

Michigan is on a three game streak of beating top 10 teams, so their arrival in the top 10 was expected.

Duke and Pittsburgh are ranked at 17 and 18 respectively. Both teams are set to face off in an ACC battle on Monday night.

The surprising team of the bunch is Texas. The Longhorns have moved into the top 25. Texas could be a contender for the Big 12 crown when it’s all said and done.

Here’s the rest of the AP poll.
