The latest AP poll was released on Monday and we have one new edition into the Top 10. Two teams dropped out of the ranking completely and that made room for two new teams to jump into the Top 25.
Syracuse survived two games by scoring buckets in the final seconds to secure improbable victories last week. The close calls haven’t been look at favorably, and the Orange are no longer unanimously ranked No. 1. They lost one of their first place votes to the Florida Gators. The Gators moved up one spot to No. 2 after Arizona’s loss. Florida’s win over Kentucky not only gave them an insurmountable lead in the SEC, but the Gators are now a heavy favorite to win the NCAA tourney.
Arizona dropped two spots after a double overtime loss to Arizona State.
Duke rounds out the top five by moving up three spots to replace San Diego State.
Some of the poll gets a little questionable in the second 10. Villanova dropped three spots to nine, but they are two spots ahead of Creighton. The Blue Jays are tied with Louisville at 11. Creighton has dominated Villanova in two victories this season.
Saint Louis rounds finally moved into the Top 10 with their victory over VCU. The Billikens are still a dark horse for a Number one seed come tourney selection time. According to Sportsline.com, Saint Louis hasn't been in the Top 10 since 1964.
Michigan State (13) dropped out of the Top 10, but they still lead five Big 10 teams in Top 25. Hopefully for the Spartans, the rest of the team gets healthy soon.
Virginia hasn’t loss since they played Duke in January. Slowly, but surely the Cavaliers are creeping up the rankings. They are now ranked 14.
UCLA (23) and Gonzaga (25) replaced SMU and Pittsburgh in the AP.
