College basketball rankings released: Arizona takes top spot

The updated college basketball rankings were released on Monday. The Arizona Wildcats are the new number one team in the AP poll. According to, Arizona is number one for the first time since 2003. With a (9-0) record, Arizona has played well against their best competition. Arizona already has wins over Duke, San Diego State and UNLV. Arizona has 63 of the 65 first place votes.

Syracuse comes in at number two after rising two spots. The undefeated Orange also have nine wins to start the season. Syracuse is receiving the other two first place votes.

The Big 10 rounds out the top five with three teams. First, Ohio State comes in at three. The Buckeyes are followed by Wisconsin at four. Former number one, Michigan State dropped to five after their loss to North Carolina.

Currently, there are 10 undefeated teams in the top 25 of the AP poll. Only five of those teams are in the top 10. Not one conference has more than four teams in the top 25. It looks to be a completely balanced season throughout.

The ACC has three teams in the top 25. Along with Syracuse, Duke (8) and North Carolina (18) earned a national ranking.

The PAC 12 has two teams in the top 25. Besides Arizona, Colorado (21) moved up 14 spots with their win over Kansas.

The Big 10 has four teams ranked. Iowa (23) is the last of the teams.

The Big 12 has four teams in the top 25. They are led by Oklahoma State at number seven. Kansas (13), Baylor (14) and Iowa State (17) are all in the top 20.

The SEC has three teams led by two loss Kentucky. The Wildcats are followed by Florida (19) and Missouri (24).

The AAC has three teams ranked in the top 25. Louisville (6), Connecticut (9), and Memphis (16) lead the way.
