The Oklahoma Sooners are ranked in the AP Top 25 as 25th in this week's college basketball rankings. According to NewsOK.com on Jan. 13, this is the first time since 2009 that the Oklahoma Sooners basketball team has been ranked.
The Sooners are now one of five Big 12 teams ranked in the Top 25, the most of any college basketball conference. The other Big 12 teams include Iowa State (8), who Oklahoma beat on Saturday, Oklahoma State (9), Baylor (12) and Kansas (15).
The Oklahoma Sooners also ranked 29th in the Coaches Poll, but that is a big move from last week. With the win over Iowa State, OU proved they are a team to reckon with. They next face Kansas State, who dropped out of the Top 25 this week, and then face the ranked Baylor Bears. If they win those games, OU should jump nicely in the rankings next week.
The last time the Sooners were ranked was the 2009 college basketball season when Blake Griffin was still with the team.
This year's team is led by Cameron Clark, who is averaging 18.3 points a game, with Buddy Hield (16.8), Jordan Woodard (11.8), Ryan Spangler (10.9) and Isiah Cousins (10.9) making this the most well rounded team since Kelvin Samspson was coaching in Norman.
The Oklahoma Sooners basketball team takes the court next on Jan. 14 for a road game with Kansas State.
