The 2013 college basketball rankings will drop Michigan State on Monday (Feb. 25). An upset by Ohio State will shake up the college basketball rankings once again, creating a gap in the top 5 where another team can sneak in. The upset took place on Sunday (Feb. 24), when the Buckeyes came up huge in the second half to give the home fans a nice 68-60 victory.
Aaron Craft led the way with 21 points and six assists, hitting on 7-of-12 shots from the field. Deshaun Thomas added 14 points and 7 rebounds to help put the Buckeyes over the top. After a rough first half that helped create a 31-25 deficit, Ohio state came out strong to out-score the Spartans 43-29 in the second half alone.
This was definitely a marquee win for No. 18 Ohio State and one that the school really needed on its resume. Coming into this past week, the team had lost three of its last four games, so beating Minnesota on Wednesday (Feb. 20) and then taking care of Michigan State on Sunday has the team back on the right track. This win will likely push them back into the top 15 when the Week 17 polls come out.
In the newest 2013 college basketball rankings, the Michigan State Spartans are in for a big fall. The team already lost to Indiana back on Tuesday (Feb. 19), so this ends the week for the team without another win. With how close the top teams have been this season, fans should not be surprised if they fall right out of the top 10 when the Week 17 college basketball polls come out.
