The 2013 college basketball rankings will likely have Indiana as No. 1 in both polls now. With Duke getting upset by Maryland and Indiana taking care of business against Nebraska and Purdue, the top selection might have been made much easier for the voters. On Saturday night (Feb. 16), Indiana looked very good against Purdue, crushing the Boilermakers 83-55 to move to 11-2 in the Big Ten this season.
Prior to the Week 15 games, Indiana had been the top team in the AP Top 25 and Duke was No. 1 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. That will definitely shift and Duke could possibly slide behind 21-3 Miami and 25-2 Gonzaga when the new polls come out. Gonzaga just beat Saint Mary's 77-60, proving that they are the best team in the West Coast Conference again. That might gain points with the voters and possibly put the Bulldogs in a position to claim a top two seed in the NCAA Tournament.
As for the rest of the 2013 college basketball rankings, No. 4 Michigan lost to Michigan State, No. 6 Syracuse lost to Connecticut, and No. 9 Arizona lost to Colorado. All three schools will lose spots in the Week 16 rankings, but so will No. 10 Kansas State, because they lost for the second time this season to Kansas. In addition to Kansas possibly popping back into the top 10, Georgetown could join them with a nice 19-4 record and a hot winning streak.
