The 2013 college basketball rankings have the Gonzaga Bulldogs up to No. 7 in the Week 13 AP Top 25. In the Jan. 28 poll, Gonzaga jumped three spots from No. 10, passing Butler, Arizona, and Louisville in the latest release.
It's interesting to note that six of the top 10 teams from last week posted a loss, causing quite a bit shift in the updated rankings. It led to Michigan becoming the No. 1 team and Kansas sliding in at No. 2. Filling out the top five teams are Indiana, Florida, and Duke. Duke lost an embarrassing game to Miami (FL) 90-63 to cost themselves that top spot.
Finishing out the top 10 (in order) are Syracuse, Gonzaga, Arizona, Butler, and Oregon. Oregon might be a surprising team in the top 10 to some college basketball fans, but the 18-2 Ducks have been winning a lot of close games and jumped six spots to their No. 10 slot.
Two teams dropped out of the Week 13 AP Top 25, with Virginia Commonwealth and Notre Dame losing their support. In their places are Marquette at No. 25 and San Diego State at No. 22. It will be interesting to see if both teams can maintain a slot in the top 25 moving forward.
The 2013 college basketball rankings have certainly been kind to the Gonzaga Bulldogs, but fans might not be content with the current No. 7 slot. Only two teams have just one loss now, so Gonzaga could certainly move up again if they take care of business against Loyola Marymount and San Diego this week.
