College basketball rankings 2013: Gonzaga ready for No. 1 ranking in Week 18

The 2013 college basketball rankings are about to make Gonzaga the No. 1 team. The Week 18 college basketball rankings will likely reward Gonzaga because the current No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers got upset by Minnesota on Tuesday night (Feb. 26).

Updated College Basketball Rankings

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 2 in both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll. Other than Indiana, they are the only team to receive first place votes in Week 17. As long as Gonzaga doesn't suffer an upset before next Monday (March 4), the team could achieve its first No. 1 ranking in school history.

To get there, Gonzaga has a tough road game against BYU on Thursday (Feb. 28) and then a home game against Portland on Saturday (March 2). Brigham Young has a 20-9 record so far this season and has proven to be very tough at home. This could be one of those pitfall games for the Bulldogs, especially since the whole team knows what is at stake here.

The 2013 college basketball rankings have been pretty unpredictable to this point, so don't put it past the voters to move the Duke Blue Devils past the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the Week 18 rankings. Duke plays against 19-8 Virginia on Thursday (Feb. 28) and then has a showdown with the No. 5 Miami Hurricanes on Saturday (March 2). Wins in both of those games could garner even more support for Duke.
