College basketball rankings 2013: Gonzaga No. 1 in Week 18 AP Top 25

The 2013 college basketball rankings have Gonzaga No. 1 now. In the Week 18 AP Top 25, the Gonzaga Bulldogs overtook the Indiana Hoosiers to become the top team in college basketball. According to the new rankings that came out Monday (March 4), though, 14 voters disagreed with that assessment.

2013 WCC Tournament Schedule

In the breakdown of the voting, Gonzaga received 51 first place votes with a 29-2 record. Indiana is the new No. 2 team with a 25-4 record and seven first place votes. Five first place votes went to No. 3 Duke and two first place votes went to No. 5 Georgetown. In between those teams is Kansas, up to No. 4 after another good week in the Big 12.

Filling out the rest of the top 10 in the Week 18 AP Top 25 are Miami, Michigan, Louisville, Kansas State, and Michigan State (in that order). Two teams dropped out of the poll, with Butler and Louisiana Tech having rough weeks. That left room for two new teams, as Virginia Commonwealth popped back in at No. 21 and UCLA is back at No. 23. UCLA is one of the hottest teams out there with an impressive 22-7 record now.

The regular season is over for the Gonzaga Bulldogs, giving the school the top spot in the 2013 college basketball rankings as they head to the WCC tournament later in the week. No. 2 Indiana has an extremely tough schedule laid out for them with Ohio State on March 5 and then Michigan on March 10. Those are tough games that could end up widening the gap in the rankings if the Hoosiers lose one.
