I spoke with Sam about her blog, College Advice.
Q. Hi, Sam. Thanks for speaking with me about your blog. When did you start your blog?
A. Hi Peggy!
I started my blog in May 2010.
Q. Are you in college yourself or have you graduated?
A. I have completed my undergraduate studies where I earned dual bachelors of science degrees in English and psychology. Now, I am in my first year as a graduate student in a mental health counseling master’s program.
Q. Who is your target audience?
A. My target audience are high school graduates, college students (including graduate students), and parents of college-bound students.
Q. What is the focus of your college blog?
A. My blog aims to help students by making their college lives a little bit easier. College Advice includes my first hand experience with many college issues, as well as the experiences of my writers. For instance, if there is one thing I took away from college it is that internships are crucial. Thus, this notion has been discussed on College Advice so that current college students can take advantage of the opportunities provided to them. Another example is with college textbooks. Many students spend an average of $500 a semester on textbooks. However, with the tips on College Advice, they can cut the cost in half and use the extra money to pay off their tuition.
Q. How do you promote your blog?
A. Promotion has been the most difficult as I had no formal knowledge in marketing. However, I’ve done my share of reading and managed to get my blog in good standing with Google. I basically utilize social networking to the max, I guest blog on other sites, and I help other bloggers/writers, which motivates them to help me in return by promoting my blog; it’s a win-win situation.
Thanks for sharing your blog with us, Sam.
Thank you, Peggy!

I am very grateful that Peggy took the time to do this interview with me, the least I can do is come back and comment :)
Once the student makes a final decision, a new phase of the college process begins. Suddenly, all the uncertainty that marked the preceding months is over, replaced by the need to get ready for college life.

I think it's great that graduate students are giving advice to those that are looking to get into college. I remember when I was that age I needed all of the college advice I could get.
