On Friday, March 7, a very special birthday wish will be revealed on "Good Morning America". Just a few hours ago, on March 6, 2014, the Happy Birthday Colin Facebook Page officially announced that the family had landed in New York and were preparing for an appearance on Friday's show where the secret birthday page will be made known to Colin.
The Facebook page announced:
We made it safely to.....New York City!! And here it is, the big announcement! Colin doesn't know yet (we had a really good cover story) but he will TOMORROW!!!
Colin’s mom started the Facebook page for her son after she was saddened by his response when she asked him if he wanted a birthday party to celebrate turning 11. According to Colin’s mom, he told her that there wasn’t a point because “he has no friends.”
While socialization is a hot topic word among homeschooling families, many area homeschoolers relate and know how it feels to watch a child struggle in this way. In fact, for some homeschooling families, a disability or bullying is the very reason they chose to educate their child at home in the first place.
She explains on Facebook that:
He eats lunch alone in the office every day because no one will let him sit with them, and rather than force someone to be unhappy with his presence, he sits alone in the office. So I thought, if I could create a page where people could send him positive thoughts and encouraging words that would be better than any birthday party.
And, that is exactly what this mom did. When she started the page on her son’s behalf, she originally hoped to get 50 likes from family friends and relatives. Now, more than 2 million likes later, he has tugged at the heartstrings of a large population.
Colin turns 11 on March 9. However, the big reveal is planned for Friday morning live on Good Morning America. In St. Louis, Good Morning America is on ABC from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Check your local listings to tune in and be part of the party. First, if you haven't done so already, head over to Colin's Facebook page and wish him a very happy birthday!
