Coldplay at All Points West Music & Arts Festival

One of the greatest challenges of having an affinity for less mainstream music is finding those who understand your distaste for those entirely overrated popular artists. Every so often, indie rock lovers catch a glimmer of hope when they connect with someone who shares their sentiments.

Such is the case with Chuck Klosterman, who in his amazing book, Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs: A Low Culture Manifesto, stated, “[Coldplay is] a British pop group whose success derives from their ability to write melodramatic alt-rock songs about fake love. It does not matter that Coldplay is the sh*ttiest freaking band I've ever heard in my entire freaking life, or that they sound like a mediocre photocopy of Travis (who sounds like a mediocre photocopy of Radiohead), or that their greatest freaking artistic achievement is a video where the blandly attractive frontman walks on a beach on a cloudy afternoon. None of that matters. What matters is that Coldplay manufactures fake love as frenetically as the Ford freaking Motor Company manufactures Mustangs. . . ‘For you I bleed myself dry,’ sang the blockhead vocalist, brilliantly informing us that stars in the sky are, in fact, yellow.”*

Take a minute to absorb that. It’s comforting and uplifting because it states everything you’ve ever believed about Coldplay since they emerged almost 10 years ago. It solidifies your beliefs that anyone who tries to imitate Radiohead is going to fail because nobody could do what Thom Yorke does.

Yet the success of Coldplay is undeniable and their fans are many. They’ve been nominated for and won numerous awards while their albums have topped the charts.

So if you believe that Coldplay is an amazing band, don’t miss their performing this upcoming Sunday, August 2 at the All Points West Music & Arts Festival in Jersey City, New Jersey.

*Please note that the word "freaking" was used to replace a specific word that Klosterman used that we are not allowed to publish on Examiner.com. I know you got the gist of it though.

why would anyone want to be thom yorke, he's fug

  • Hanky Wired Ghost 2 years ago

Thom Yorke may be 'fug' but has one of the most brilliant minds in music EVER, is a truly gifted songwritter and really writes songs with REAL meaning, not fluffy words. Plus, he is a talented musician, a great live performer and an astonishingly good singer. Basically, he is a brittish short wonky eyed GOD.

hey! hey! who gives a fug? leave coldplay alone.
