Coldest airmass of the Autumn season; much drier

A chilly day is on tap as the coldest airmass of the Autumn season filters into the state behind a strong cold front, which brought a few strong to severe storms to the southern half of the state on Thursday.

Lots of cloud cover around today will help keep temperatures down as gusty winds out of the north and northwest transports and or advects much colder and drier air into the state.

High temperatures will remain in the 50s across Northern and  portions of Central Mississippi, with temperatures falling and or hovering in the low to mid 60s across Southern Mississippi and the coast.

Low temperatures will plunge into the 40s statewide, which will make this the coldest night overall in 6 months or since April.

Temperatures will be even cooler over the weekend as lows will likely drop into the upper 30s to around 40 on both Sunday morning and Monday morning in portions of Northern and Central Mississippi, with high temperatures on Saturday in the 50s to low 60s statewide.

With the exception of some sprinkles and or a light rain shower on Saturday in Northern Mississippi, a much drier stretch of weather is expected over the next several days.

In a matter of fact, this will be the longest stretch of dry weather the state has experienced overall this month.
