Cold airmass surges south and east through the week-GFS model
After experiencing a fairly warm day across most of the state on Sunday with temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s, much colder air is on the way!
Rain moved across the state Monday morning in association with an frontal boundary which was ushering in cooler air into the state but not as cold as what is expected by the end of the week.
High temperatures by the end of the week will only reach into the 40s across Northern and Central Mississippi with highs around 50 along the coast.
Low temperatures will likely drop into the mid and upper 20s across much of the state.
(Note: While temperature trends are for high temperatures to remain in the 40s across most of the state Thursday and Friday, these temperatures could be lower depending on the winds and or cloud cover and the strength of the cold airmass during this time-frame.)

In addition to the projected cold temperatures ahead, a significant storm system will affect the state Tuesday night into Wednesday before the colder air arrives.
This storm system will bring the potential of heavy rainfall and coastal flooding to the state.
The overall (El Nino) pattern going forward into December will be very challenging and rapidly changing.
It is important that everyone stay updated on the latest weather information as it becomes available.
