Coldcock Whiskey interview: CEO takes his shot at Rockstar Mayhem Festival

After spending a good chunk of his career organizing Jagermeister sponsored events, Rick Zeiler decided to marry his love of sports, music and good liquor by founding Coldcock American Herbal Flavored Whiskey in 2012. The San Diego based spirits importer was not alone in his passion for creating Coldcock Whiskey. Zeiler enlisted his lovely wife, Sarah, as well as other notable liquor and entertainment industry veterans, musicians and action sports athletes to his liquid cause. Zeiler has also married Coldcock with numerous sports events and tours including the 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival which kicks off on July 5 in San Bernadino.

Zeiler has worked closely with Mayhem and Uproar co-creator John Reese, and this year that partnership has culminated in the Coldcock American Herbal Flavored Whiskey Second Stage which will feature performances from Cannibal Corpse, Suicide Silence, Miss May I, Mushroomhead, Texas Hippie Coalition, and King 810. Coldcock will also be showing its support for our military and their families through its involvement with this year’s iHome Metal of Honor initiatives (created for United States soldiers who’ve fought for our freedom). Coldcock will be sponsoring the official Hometown Hero contest, in which one brave winner will receive a custom Coldcock Whiskey branded Schecter guitar and a Peavey amp.

Rick Zeiler stated:

I have had the pleasure of working with many of these bands over the years and have become good friends with them as well as the tour organizers. Without live music Coldcock Whiskey wouldn't exist. I can't think of a better way to represent the culture of our company while also recognizing the brave men and women of our armed forces. I want to be the first to mix Coldcock and Rockstar and create the Cock*Star at this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival!

Among those who have joined in with Zeiler’s Coldcock passion are metalheads Kerry King (Slayer), David Draiman (Disturbed, Device), and Ashley Purdy (Black Veil Brides). Other musicians include Raul Bianchi of The Expendables, and Miles Doughty of Slightly Stupid. But musicians are not the only ones who have joined the Coldcock family, action sports athletes Colten Moore (snowmobile), Cam Zink and Greg Watts (pro mountain bikers) and Todd Leduc of Metal Mulisha are all investors and supporters. It is clear there is something special about this whiskey.

Coldcock is three-year aged American bourbon blended with a variety of herbs, including green tea, hibiscus, ginger, eucalyptus, cinnamon and gingko. The effect of the added elements gives Coldcock a unique flavor and reduces the after-burn of traditional whiskeys. Some have even touted that Coldcock is hang-over free, but Zeiler is quick to dispel that myth, but allows that there is a reduced likelihood as Coldcock uses less sugar which is a noted cause of the hangover effect.

The band’s slogan, “Take Your Shot” holds double meaning, as Zeiler believes it is important for all of us to strive to achieve our goals. “Chase your dreams, take your shot.” Mayhem fans will get a chance to take their shot directly from some of their favorite bands this year: At each show, 21+ fans are invited to the Coldcock Whiskey booth to meet Sam Bettley of Asking Alexandria, along with members of Mushroomhead, Ill Nino and Upon A Burning Body, and in select markets, catch these artists as celebrity guest bartenders!

Bettley remarked:

Stoked for Coldcock to be jumping on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival this year… It’s gonna be a wild one. You’ll be seeing me and the lads at various dates doing some guest bartending and generally causing fu*%# havoc! Shots!

Coldcock American Herbal Flavored Whiskey is available now in Illinois, Arizona, California, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, DC, Nebraska, Tennessee, Georgia, Indiana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas and South Carolina, with more states joining the ranks throughout the year.
