There's no other way to say it. Cold sore suck! I know that is a terribly educated opinion (feel the sarcasm), but anyone that has ever had cold sores knows just how much that statement describes them to a tee.
What are cold sores?
Cold sores are small blisters that form on and around the mouth as a result of being infected with Herpes Simplex Virus. This is NOT the same virus that causes genital herpes! When this virus is active, it produces painful blisters that can really put a damper on your best photo opp. When it is not active, the virus lies dormant in the nerve cells outlying the oral region. The virus becomes active during periods of stress, menstruation, sunlight, sunburn, fever, dehydration, or local skin trauma.
Ways to get them to heal faster:
Lavender essential oil- Lavender oil doesn't taste the greatest, but it will help to heal up the skin once an outbreak has occurred.
Thyme linalol oil- Thyme linalol is an essential oil of thyme. It can mixed with the lavender and applied to the cold sore to help dry it quickly.
Peppermint oil-peppermint oil can act as an analgesic to reduce the pain caused by the cold sore.
These three oils can be combined in a "carrier" oil, like coconut oil, to produce a soothing ointment to get that ugly, old fever blister healed up quickly.
Ways to keep them at bay:
GET SOME SLEEP! Stress is the number one re-activator of these pesky sores. I know I have suffered from them since I have been in high school. I must watch my stress levels and get plenty of sleep or I will feel the pesky tingle of pain just a mere hour before the blister appears.
BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM! Blends of many Chinese herbs, like Cordyceps, helps to boost the immune system by aiding the body in modulating stress, which can decrease the number of immune cells produced by your body. Vitamin C, in the form of Ascorbic Acid, helps this as well.
These are just a couple of quick tips to try. Cold sores really do suck! Hopefully these tips can help you put them in their place once and for all.
