Cold front slowly approaches with showers and thunderstorms producing heavy rain

Today’s Weather Synopsis…

A slow-moving cold front will track through the region today into this evening with increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms by this afternoon from northwest to southeast. A few storms could even become strong with gusty winds and heavy downpours, and some minor areas of flash flooding or poor drainage flooding are possible, especially north and west of the Capital Region where a flash flood watch has been issued.

Some showers or an isolated thunderstorm will linger into Thursday as the cold front remains nearby, but drier conditions will gradually attempt to filter into the region by Thursday night. Drier and less humid weather will build into the region by late week and into the weekend as high pressure returns.

Variably cloudy and humid with a slight chance of showers this morning, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm late this afternoon. Some of the storms could contain gusty winds and heavy downpours.

Winds South between 5 and 10 mph.

• Tonight:
Mostly cloudy, warm, and humid with showers and thunderstorms likely in the evening, then a chance of showers after midnight. Some of the storms could contain gusty winds and heavy downpours.
Low 69°F
Winds Southeast between 10 and 15 mph.
Chance of rain 80 percent.
