Synopsis…

A backdoor cold front will move across the region today with a round of showers and thunderstorms developing this afternoon, some of which could become strong or even severe with gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain. Some breaks of sunshine will allow temperatures to rise well into the 70’s and lower 80’s, with the degree of instability that develops highly dependent on how much sunshine develops and then ultimately how widespread and strong the storms become.

Quieter weather will then return into mid-week with cooler temperatures as the cold front settles south of the region and high pressure attempts to build in from the east. A moist east-southeasterly flow off the Atlantic Ocean may keep considerable clouds and even some spotty drizzle or sprinkles in place early on Wednesday, along with below average temperatures making it feel a bit cool for late May. Another cold front will then approach the region into late week with a renewed chance of showers and thunderstorms.
