Police have arrested two men in connection with an unsolved murder case that happened 25 years ago, according to the Vallejo Times-Herald. Police say the California woman's body was found in Sonoma County.
Sonoma County police say, Josefat Presencion, 47, and Fausto Chavez, 49, are accused of murdering Wynetta Davis, a Sonoma County woman, who vanished in 1988. The woman's body was discovered two days later floating in a water trough near Petaluma, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
An autopsy report concluded that Wynetta Davis had been strangled before being placed in the water trough.
Police became aware of the case after Davis' mother reported the Vallejo woman missing. The initial investigation went cold for the next 22 years until investigators opened up the cold case to examine old evidence in 2010. The DNA evidence submitted returned information that led to the two Mexican nationals.
Fausto Chavez and Josefat Presencion are being held in the Sonoma County Jail without bond.
Further court details pending.
