Colbert's sister wins: Elizabeth Colbert wins Democratic congressional race

"Colbert's sister wins." That is the headline out of South Carolina as Elizabeth Colbert Busch wins the Democratic nomination in the race for South Carolina's first congressional seat. She is, of course, the sister of actor Stephen Colbert, but she is starting to make a name for herself. According to a report from late Tuesday (March 19), she easily defeated challenger Ben Frasier to earn the Democratic nomination for the general election.

Now Colbert Busch will likely take on Mark Sanford, who is the leading Republican candidate in this race for this South Carolina seat in Congress. Sanford was involved in a pretty big scandal back in 2009 when he suddenly disappeared for about a week. He told his staff that he was hiking the Appalachian Trail, but it was later discovered that he was meeting up with his mistress in Argentina during that vanishing act.

If Stephen Colbert's sister wins in the general election, it would certainly be a huge win for Elizabeth Colbert Busch. At first, it seemed like she was considered an underdog in this election due to the politics of her brother, but her candidacy has sparked a lot of outside interest in South Carolina politics. Though she has already won the Democratic nomination, it could be even tougher to defeat the Republican nominee later on down the road.
