Coke Super Bowl ad has multilingual version of America the Beautiful

O beautiful for spacious skies… Wait, make that “O hermoso para los cielos amplias.” Scratch that. Instead sing the words loud and clear: “O زیبا برای آسمان بزرگ”…

As I noted earlier in a Quick Take, an ad by a gun manufacturer was rejected by the National Football League because of a policy that “allows advertising from stores that sell firearms and ammunition, such as outdoor or camping stores, as long as the businesses sell other products and the ads don’t mention firearms, ammunition, or other weapons.” [Emphasis added]

In case that’s not enough to persuade you that there’s more “red” than “red, white, and blue” in the NFL power structure, consider a commercial that did make it onto last night’s Super Bowl broadcast. The video may be viewed here.

At his blog, Col. Allen West writes:

If we cannot be proud enough as a country to sing “America the Beautiful” in English in a commercial during the Super Bowl, by a company as American as they come — … we are on the road to perdition.

Amen to that.
