Cohassett, Needham, Westwood announce summer reading programs

 With the help of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, Mass.gov announced a brief list of special reading events and programs at Public Libraries across the Commonwealth. Here are some notable ones from Norfolk County:

Cohassett- The Paul Pratt Memorial Library in Cohasset
Summer Reading Kickoff Events!
“Starship Adventure at your Library” kicks off with two fun events!
Monday, June 29th at 6:00pm
The family movie "Tale of Desperaux"
Tuesday, June 30th at 6:00pm
A family concert performed by the "Toe Jam Puppet Band".

 Needham- Needham Public Library
Summer Reading Kickoff Event: Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 3 pm
Storyteller Mary Jo Maichack: Sun, Moon, Stars, Shine!
A sampler of multicultural stories with original songs to celebrate light.

Special Events:
Monday, July 13 at 3 pm
Pumpernickel Puppets: Sir George and the Dragon with Z-2000 the Space Robot.
A cast of colorful puppet characters, audience participation, live voices and sound effects and fast paced scripts will educate and entertain.

Monday, July 27 at 3 pm
Noisy Science
Music, theatre, and humor are brought together to present the science behind sound in a new and thoroughly entertaining manner.

Friday, August 21 at 3 pm
Toe Jam Puppet Band in Outer Space.
Join the band as they play songs from their new original CD Toe Jam in Outer Space! The show features a spacey dress-up puppet show and some crazy anti-gravity dancing!

Westwood- Westwood Public Library
Summer Reading Kickoff!
Tuesday, July 6th, 6:30 PM
"Blast Off" the Summer Reading Program with a Fun, Family Celebration.
Rocket pops, face painting, kazoo sing-along, and more!

Special Events and Programs:
Thursday, July 30th, 4:00 PM
Recycle, Reuse and Create Space Crafts. Using recycled materials, create space rockets, robots and more.

Monday, Aug. 3rd, 4:00 PM: Go for the Stars! Featuring ROBO the Friendly Robot! A multimedia space program presentation. Ages 5 and up. Registration will be required.

Thursday, Aug. 13th, 2:00 PM: Library Scavenger Hunt. Search the library for answers and earn prizes.

Monday, Aug. 17th, All Day Event: Boston's Museum of Science Space Lab. Enter an inflatable space lab for stars and stories! Ages 5 and up. Registration will be required.

Tuesday, Aug. 18th, 7:00 PM: Spooky Campfire Stories. Listen to librarians' favorite spooky stories - only if you dare! Recommended for brave 3-5 graders.
