A Chevron gas station manager reported shot a violent armed robber in self defense.
Police say that at around 9:20 PM, a robber entered the Chevron gas station in Cocoa, Florida and pointed a handgun at the manager while demanding money. The manager reportedly grabbed his own gun from below the counter and fired in self defense, striking the criminal and causing him to flee to the parking lot, where he collapsed. Police are said to have arrived to find a suspect laying the parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds to the abdomen. The suspect was airlifted to a hospital for emergency surgery, where he was listed in critical but stable condition. Neither the gas station manager nor any other innocent people were harmed. Speaking about this self defense shooting, Police Spokesperson Officer Barbara Matthews reported stated "He absolutely had the right to defend himself."
Unarmed individuals can suffer a terrible fate when a criminal robs them, even if they fully cooperate with the criminal’s demands. The same is true for those who try to run from the robber.
On the other hand, fighting back against robbers can be quite effective as a means of reducing the risk of injury to the victim. This armed barber shot an armed criminal who threatened him and his son, saving their lives. This armed pet shop clerk shot an armed robber who threatened a fellow employee’s life, as well as his own life, preventing them both from being stabbed. This armed pizza delivery man defended himself against 3 armed robbers, and walked away unharmed. This armed citizen stopped a bank robber, while this armed Israeli citizen stopped a terrorist. This motel clerk was also able to stop an armed robber and ensure that neither her, a fellow employee, or a nearby mother and baby were harmed. Even outside the context of armed robbery, self defense has been shown to be the best course of action.

This is such a sad story. A predator survived an encounter with prey that fought back...and won!!! It is too bad the predator will survive as it will cost taxpayers a bundle to pay his medical expenses for being shot, his prosecution expenses, his defense expenses, his incarceration expenses and etc. If the attendant had been a better shot, all these expenses could have been avoided.
Excellent gun control! I hope the manager sleeps well tonight knowing he protected his own life. Maybe the P.O.S. in the hospital will use this as on the job training and decide to go into another career field.
Hitting a little closer to home with this story... I too am the manager of my family's Chevron service station. We are an independent carrying the Chevron brand and an old fashioned "Service" station.
I TOO carry self defense firearm... Just In Case.. This time of year is always a concern for me that I MAY just have to use it. I hope I do not, but if it comes down to me or the criminal I hope that the outcome is the same as this individual in Florida... able to go home to his family at the end of the day.
This story hits a little closer to home for me... I too am the manager of my family's "Chevron" service station in a small town.
I TOO carry a self defense firearm... Just In Case.. And this time of year is always a concern for me in that crime increases during the holidays. I know that at any time that I MAY just have to use it. I hope I do not, but if it comes down to me or the criminal I hope that the outcome is the same as this individual in Florida... able to go home to my family at the end of the day. Being able to defend oneself in an equitable fashion is better than not. I am just glad that in my state we have a "Will Issue" policy when it comes to concealed carry... and because of that we have a MUCH lower crime rate than the areas that do not.
The manager in Florida "Should" be sleeping well but I bet that he is not... For the average citizen does NOT want to cause harm to anyo
