Cocktails for Selection Sunday and March Madness 2014

Today, March 16 is Selection Sunday 2014, the day that every NCAA team waits for their name to be called with the anticipation of where they will be seeded, and who they will be matching up against in the first round. But not only is Selection Sunday an important day for the teams, but also the fans who will be doing their best to select the best bracket amongst their friends.

The Wichita State Shockers are the first undefeated NCAA tournament team since UNLV in 1991, and are expected to earn a No. 1 seed along with Florida and Arizona. The fourth No. 1 seed remains a toss-up which will learn during the selection show.

CBS will go on the air at 6 p.m. ET to announce the field of 68 and set March Madness for 2014.

To get in the mood for painstakingly filling out your basketball bracket, take a look at these four below cocktails.

Slam Dunk Punch

  • 2 cup Tequila
  • 1 cup Orange liqueur
  • 1/2 gallon Orange sherbet
  • 2 liter Ginger ale
  • 6 ounce Frozen orange juice concentrate

Place sherbet and frozen orange juice concentrate in a punch bowl. Allow to thaw for 10 to 15 minutes. Stir in ginger ale, tequila and orange liqueur. Garnish with orange slices and serve.

The Brown Suit

(named for Adolph Rupp one of the most successful coaches in NCAA history, who wore nothing but a brown wash-and-wear suit)

  • 1 ½ oz Makers Mark whiskey
  • 1 oz gin
  • Fill with lemon-lime soda

1. Fill a tall glass with ice
2. Add white whiskey and gin
3. Fill with lemon-lime soda

Draft Pick

  • 2 ounces New Amsterdam Vodka
  • 1/2 ounce peach schnapps
  • 1 ounce orange juice
  • Top with light beer

Directions: Add ingredients directly into a beer glass. Garnish with an orange slice.

Final 4 Margarita

• 3 parts Spiced Rum
• 1 part Tea
• 1 part fresh lemon juice
• 1 part honey
• 1 part water
• 1 part pineapple juice
• ¼ oz Bitters
• Fresh mint leaves on top as garnish.

Combine ingredients in a large punch bowl with one block of ice to keep chilled. Serve with a ladle into rocks glasses or punch cups.
